Rebecca Scheibmair Clinical PsychologistDo you feel like life is getting on top of you?  With our lives becoming increasingly busy and often juggling several competing demands, it is not surprising that all of us have moments when we find it difficult to cope with daily life.  But you don't have to continue to struggle.

If you find yourself worrying about things big or small, feel like you are 'going through the motions', feel disconnected from the people you care about, are avoiding challenging situations, snapping at the people you love, or just think "it could be better than this"; psychological therapy can help you to understand what is going on, and give you strategies that you can fit into your everyday life.

Psychological therapy has sound scientific research behind it, and is highly effective in treating a range of difficulties, without any unwanted side effects.  These difficulties include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety (including social anxiety, and generalised anxiety)
  • Panic attacks
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Stress
  • Adjustment to life changes (including coping with medical conditions)
  • Trauma

If you are looking for someone to listen and work collaboratively in a genuine and compassionate way, then therapy could be for you.   I am happy to have a no obligation chat with you over the phone to discuss if this is right for you.  If this is not the right fit for you, I can also suggest other solutions that may be able to help.

About Me

Dr Rebecca Scheibmair

DClinPsych, MNZCCP

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of a range of difficulties including Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Adjustment, and Trauma.  I worked in a Community Mental Health Centre with a diverse population, before moving into private practice to work more locally, and get that elusive work life balance.

I help people in identifying current challenges, connecting with what is important, and learning skills and tools to cope with the difficult things life throws at you.  The therapy approach I use sees people as not broken, just stuck; and with our increasingly busy lifestyles and number of demands placed on us, we all get stuck from time to time.  I am trained in a number of therapy modalities including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness

I work in the Franklin and South Auckland area, with clinics in both Pukekohe and Tuakau.  I live locally in the Franklin area and am motivated to provide effective therapy that allows people to get on with their lives quickly, without the inconvenience of having to travel to Auckland city for therapy.

Making an appointment

I encourage you to phone me for a free consultation over the phone about what might be right for you.  It is important that there is the right fit between therapist and client so it is worth spending some time ensuring you are comfortable.  Often people feel nervous about contacting a psychologist and beginning therapy as most people do not know what to expect.  A brief chat over the phone can often answer any questions you may have.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and the first appointment is primarily about understanding what is going on for you.  At the end of the initial appointment we can discuss a plan that is right for you.  There is no set number of sessions as everyone is different.  We can discuss what is the right fit for you - whether that be brief focused therapy, or exploring more in depth.
